The chambers

Substantive workon terms the client could not otherwise meet.

Pro bono work is an institutional commitment of the chambers, not an individual elective. Every member at the chambers carries pro bono matters as part of their workload.

Pro bono practice at the chambers is institutional. Every member carries pro bono matters as part of their workload, and every pro bono instruction is staffed and supervised on the same standard as commercial work.

Areas of concentration

Our pro bono practice concentrates on immigration and asylum, criminal defence for indigent defendants, civil-rights litigation, and counsel to non-profit organizations serving vulnerable communities. We work in partnership with regional legal-aid bodies across our office cities.

The discipline of the work

We do not treat pro bono matters as training exercises or as institutional good-will work. Each is a substantive instruction deserving substantive counsel, and we hold ourselves to the same standard of work product, supervision, and care as our commercial practice.

“Substantive legal work for clients who would otherwise be unable to access it.”
